Restore Masonry won big at the 2018 Excellence in Masonry Awards, winning in two categories for the outstanding work at Lane Tech High School. After a brief hiatus from holding the competition, the Masonry Advisory Council reinstated their flagship awards ceremony which recognizes the best masonry projects in the Chicagoland area. Restore Masonry was honored to be the recipient of the “Best Contemporary Rehab/Restoration” award as well as the “Craftsmanship” Award. The Lane Tech project was a massive exterior restoration to the aging masonry façade of one of Chicago’s oldest and largest public high schools. The 607,000 square foot building received 163,000 square feet of grinding and tuckpointing, over 18,000 lineal feet of installed flashing, 15,000 pieces of terra cotta restored or replaced, 34,000 square feet of masonry buttresses demoed & rebuilt and over a million brick installed. All while the school was fully occupied. It was an amazing project and the awards are validation for all of the bricklayers, tuckpointers and laborers who demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication to revitalizing this anchor of the Roscoe Village neighborhood.
